Ellen & Nick’s Engagement

Nashville, Tennessee

Growing up in California, I used to think there was nothing like the ocean. I assumed nothing else could provide the same feeling of peace and awe that comes from looking out at the water.

Deep blue waves calmly rippling under a sunset sky turned pink. I thought only one place could ever give me that.

But then I witnessed wind blowing across a wide open Tennessee field. Tall green, yellow grass swaying collectively with the breeze for stretches of miles as far as the eye can see, more brilliant somehow with a setting sun. A feeling washed over me connecting me back to the sea.

Taking the time to stop and yield and take in the natural vastness around us can lead to earnest inspiration. The same way Californians (or anyone) request their photos taken at the beach is the same desire I had to photograph a couple in the sprawling Franklin fields. The beauty and movement of nature meeting with the beauty and movement of love is the ultimate image.

Ellen and Nick were a foolproof couple to photograph in the fields. Their fun, free spirits, their chemistry and genuine love for each other came alive all the more at the exquisite scene. A beautiful location may always be beautiful, but when people bring their love and adoration to it, it forever becomes much more.

Thank you Ellen and Nick for loving each other the way you do, and for spontaneity that led to magic. We can’t wait for September!
